After some sightseeing, business meetings and an audience with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie also met with the heir to the Japanese throne, Crown Prince Naruhito, at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo today. In addition, they also shook hands and held talks with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, as well as young Japanese IT specialists.

Busy in Japan

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie and their accompanying delegation have made their way from South Korea to Japan. After visits to the Meiji Shrine and the Nezu Museum yesterday, the Hereditary Grand Ducal Couple were received by the Emperor and Empress of Japan for a lunch today. In addition, they attended two business meetings.

Monday Night Out

On Monday night, Prince Guillaume and Princess Sibilla attended a lecture by INSEAD professor of banking and finance Jean Dermine at Neimënster, formerly known as Abbaye de Neumünster. The Edmond Israel Memorial Lecture was jointly organised by the University of Luxembourg, the Luxembourg School of Finance and Clearstream. South Korea Continued

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume is still on a mission, an ecomomic mission to South Korea (and Japan in the days to come). For the more official and less business-y events he was joined by his wife, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie, today. It's not clear whether she only flew in from Luxembourg now or whether she simply stayed out of the photographers' eyes during the last few days.

The economic mission started with an evening dinner hosted by Luxembourg's Honorary Consul to Seoul, Hong Young-Yeoul, and continued with various business meetings. Today, the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Hereditary Grand Duchess visited the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea as well as a war memorial.

Guillaume and Stéphanie in Korea

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie arrived in Seoul, South Korea earlier today. They are accompanied by Ministers Etienne Schneider and Francois Bausch and a large (60+) delegation representing more than 30 businesses.

The first day of the visit was pretty slow to allow the travel weary guests time to rest. Guillaume and some of the guests attended a dinner hosted by Luxembourg's Honorary Consul Young-Chul Hong in the evening. One of the highlights of the visit will be when Guillaume and Stephanie visit the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea to lay flowers at the War Memorial of Korea. Additionally, the couple and the delegation will visit various businesses and participate in workshops designed to bring representatives of local businesses together with those from Luxembourg.

South Korea is an important economic partner for Luxembourg. In 2012 Luxembourg's exports to South Korea reached 41.5 million Euro (54 million USD).

The delegation will depart for Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday.

International Day of Older Persons

Last night, Hereditary Prince Alois was among the guests for an event marking the International Day of Older Persons taking place on October 1 each year. In Liechtenstein the Day of Older Persons is organised by the Seniorenbund, a senior organisation, which is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Red Cross Meeting

Earlier today, Grand Duchess Maria-Teresa, President of the Luxembourgish branch of the Red Cross, welcomed representatives of the national Red Cross committees of Europe's small states, including Hereditary Princess Sophie, at the palais. The delegations from Liechtenstein, Andorra, Malta, Monaco, Cyprus, San Marino, Montenegro and Iceland have come together for a conference in Luxembourg today and tomorrow to talk about national and international Red Cross projects and similar subjects.

Monégasque Charity Dinner

Prince Guillaume and Princess Sibilla were among the guests of the EORTC Charity Dinner at Monaco Yacht Club alongside fellow royals such as Prince Albert II of Monaco, Prince Lorenz and Princess Astrid of Belgium as well as Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud last night. Prince Guillaume is a member of the general assembly of the charitable trust of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer that Princess Astrid was and Prince Albert II now is the honorary president of.

Today, Grand Duke Henri welcomed the President of the Riigikogu, the Estonian Parliament, for an audience at the palais. Social Democrat Eiki Nestor is currently on a two-day working visit to the Grand Duchy.

As it turns out, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie accompanied her husband on his visit to the  company ELTH yesterday. In advance information released by the cour grand-ducale only Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume's presence was mentioned but we sure won't complain, will we? The Steinsel-based company ELTH is specialised in the production of thermostats, thermisters, temperature sensors, level sensors, gas heaters and washing systems.
