Grand Duchess Maria Teresa Supports Red Cross Bazaar

On Sunday the 20th, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, who is the patron of the annual Red Cross Bazaar, was there to support the event once more. (The Hereditary Grand Ducal couple attended last year, and Princess Alexandra the year before.) The Christmas stalls opened at 10 in the morning, inside Halle Victor Hugo, with the proceeds going toward supporting the local and international work of the Red Cross.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa Attends Red Cross Ball

On Saturday the 19th, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa attended the 20th anniversary of the Red Cross Ball, to support the Luxembourg Red Cross. The Grand Duchess is the current President of the organization.

The event featured a 1920s theme, with musical performances from "Down to Earth Diva" Nicola Mills, soprano Cécile Rives and cellist Louise Leverd. Additionally, an auction featured more than 60 items, including works of art and luxury travel, with all proceeds from the evening going toward supporting the work of the Red Cross.

Prince Philipp Speaks About "Redefining Financial Values"

Prince Philipp, chairman of the LGT Bank, spoke at a financial centre initiative at the Stadtpalais in Vienna on Thursday. Its aim if to present the process of change and the new positioning of Liechtenstein’s financial centre to a larger audience. Another speaker at the event was Professor Martin Wenz from the University of Liechtenstein. A similar event already took place in Zürich in June of this year.

Guillaume Unveils Memorial for Road Traffic Victims

Earlier today, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume was present for the unveiling of a memorial for road traffic victims, both those who lost their lives and those who suffered heavy injuries. The event was organised by the Association nationale des Victimes de la Route (AVR), a patronage of the Hereditary Grand Duke, on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. In line with its name, the association supports victims of road accidents and their families. They offer a wide range of help starting with psychological and social support all the way to administrative support. The AVR also tries to do prevention work by educating young drivers. Just a few days ago, the Hereditary Grand Duke and Hereditary Grand Duchess marked the 20th anniversary of the Drivers's Training Centre.

Guillaume and Stéphanie Visit Drivers' Training Centre

On the 17th, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie were in Colmar-Berg to recognize the 20th anniversary of Centre de Formation pour Conducteurs (the CFC, or Driver's Training Centre). 

This is not the first visit from the Grand Ducal family, as Grand Duke Jean was there at the opening in June of 1996 and then paid a visit to see a new building in July of 2011. (Scroll down slightly to see the photos and the details.)

Princess Tessy at the nOSCARS

Earlier this week on the evening of the 'Joyful Noises' performance she attended with her husband, Princess Tessy was out and about again supporting people living with HIV at the nOSCARS, an annual black tie celebration to highlight the programmes and volunteers making a difference in minority communities. They are organised by NAZ, a charity which concentrates on providing sexual health services to black, Asian and other ethnic minority communities which make up a disproportionately high percentage of the 103,000 people living with HIV in the United Kingdom.

Grand Duke Henri Receives CIMI Delegation from Brazil

On the 16th, Grand Duke Henri received in audience a delegation from the organization CIMI (Conselho Indigenista Missionário), which supports the land and cultural rights of indigenous peoples in Brazil. This audience was part of the 50th anniversary celebration for the Bridderlech Deelen Foundation, now Partage.lu, which has supported CIMI since 1991.

Henri and Maria Teresa Visit Lunex University

On the 18th, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa were in Differdange to attend the opening of new facilities at Lunex University. The school specializes in programs for sports and health management. The new opening represents only part of the long-term growth expectations for Lunex University, with plans in place for a new sports hall, a sports science laboratory, an event hall, and student housing.

Maria Teresa Supports the Bridderlech Deelen Foundation

On the 16th, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa attended the 50th anniversary event for the Bridderlech Deelen Foundation, which has also announced its new name: Partage.lu. The organization supports the vulnerable in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Also in attendance were Marguerite Barankitse, who is the founder of Maison Shalom, and Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich who founded the Bridderlech Deelen Foundation.

Maria Teresa Presents Microfinance Award

On the 17th, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa presented the 7th European Microfinance Prize of 100.000€ to the Kashf Foundation of Pakistan. The organization is the first to offer significant microfinance opportunities in Pakistan, with the larger goal of alleviating poverty and encouraging gender equality, particularly among businesses.

The Grand Duchess also spoke at the event, which was focused on "Microfinance and Access to Education" and took place during European Microfinance Week within Luxembourg. Romain Schneider, the Minister of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, was there, as well as Dr. Werner Hoyer who is the president of the European Investment Bank (EIB).
