One of our readers asked, whether we could identify those members of the Lannoy family that were present at the wedding of Countess Stéphanie to Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume. Of course we can, well, those we know and actually have a picture of...

Another picture of the family. The only person missing was Count Jehan's wife Beatrice. There was no explanation given so let's refrain from any speculation. She was present for the funeral of her mother in law a few weeks ago.

Another picture of Count Christian and his wife Countess Luisa, she gave birth to their second child, a boy, just a few weeks ago.

Another picture of Lydia de Schaetzen, née della Faille de Leverghem. She is the sister of Stephanie's late mother and accompanied Grand Duke Henri on his way to church prior to the religious service. Next to her is her husband Dominique de Schaetzen.

One of Stephanie's brothers', Count Amaury, read one of the intercessions (in French).

Her sister in law, Countess Alice, wife of Count Olivier, read another one in Dutch.

This lady is another member of the extended Lannoy family. Descending from Count Maurice de Lannoy, Countess Minthia de Lannoy is a member of a junior branch of the family and married to a cousin of Grand Duke Henri, Prince Antoine-Lamoral de Ligne, who you can see with her in the picture. Prince Antoine-Lamoral is the sixth of seven children of Antoine, 13th Prince of Ligne and his wife née Princess Alix of Luxembourg, sister of Grand Duke Jean.

At least three of the persons in the picture she be familiar to you. Waving in the foreground are Princess Marie-Astrid and Archduke Carl-Christian, in the background you can see their daughter, Archduchess Gabriella and Père Daniel-Ange. Now, you can put a name to the faces of four persons, so two to go: the lady on the right is a first cousin of Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie. Her name is Countess Christine de Lannoy and the man next to her is her husband, Count Bruno de Limburg-Stirum, son of Princess Helene of France. He is a first cousin of Count Rodolphe de Limburg-Stirum, husband of Archduchess Marie-Christine, daughter of Princess Marie-Astrid and thus a cousin of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume.
Many thanks for these pictures and comments
ReplyDeleteAs far as I´ve understood it, Gaelle de Lannoy belongs to the catholic community "Foyer de charité". Do you know something about that group? Further, some international media reported that an aunt of the Stephanie was a nun and a cousin of Stephanie was a catholic priest. Do you know anything abot that?
ReplyDeleteInteresting info! Sorry to split hairs slightly but Countess Jehan was not on the official guest list published in advance by the cour, so if we were speculating (which we are not!) it would be why she was not on the list, not absent on the day.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I wonder: have any of the siblings of Stephanie married non noblemen and women? Some of them (Hamilton for example) seem like normal names though I somehow doubt they are plain commoners (maybe wealthy individuals at least). Are the lannoys concerned about marrying into certain "circles" of society? Or is it just coincidence?
ReplyDeleteOne of the sisters of Count Philippe, Countess Isabelle is indeed a nun and a member of the "Carmélite Apostolique de Saint-Joseph". The "Foyer de Charité" that Gaelle is a member of is not a Catholic order in the traditional sense. All the members, apart from foyerpere, are laity. From their website: "The Foyers de Charité are Roman Catholic communities of baptized
ReplyDeletepersons, men and women who, following the example of the first
Christians, share all their gifts and resources. Together with a
priest, the Father of the Foyer, they commit themselves to announcing
the Gospel. Their principal mission is the giving of spiritual retreats
in a silent family atmosphere." I don't know which ones but I seem to remember that there were a few priests belonging to the de Lannoy/della Faille de Leverghem families present for the wedding.
Jehan was mentioned on the guest list. (I attached a picture of the section in question.)
ReplyDeleteSorry, I was a bit confused, you did not question whether Jehan was mentioned but Beatrice... Indeed she wasn't listed and I did not say that she was. I only said that she wasn't present and that there was no explanation given. A lot of people are speculating that there might be trouble in the marriage, though it could also be an important meeting or some other family member being sick since quite a while and that she wanted to be by their bedside. I guess we will never know.
ReplyDeleteSorry if i was confusing/confused. I only meant that it looks like she was never going to be there - which is a shame since her children were among the young attendants. As you say we may never know...
ReplyDeleteThat's true. Would have been lovely to see the whole family.
