First Impressions

Archduke Christoph and Archduchess Adelaide just got religiously married at the Basilique Saint Eprve in Nancy. The first pictures have started to roll in so we just gonna roll along...

The bride arriving on the arm of her father, a French diplomat. She wore a custom Diane Lelys gown made of duchess satin with a long train. She toped of her look with an antique Habsburg veil, that has already been worn by her sisters-in-law Marie-Christine and Kathleen on their wedding days, she anchor the veil with the smaller one of the two diamond floral tiaras that are owned by the Grand Ducal family. It is the same tiara that her husband's sister Archduchess Marie-Christine wore at her wedding. One of her sister's acted as Adelaide's bridesmaid.

The groom entered the church on the arm of his mother Princess Marie-Astrid, the oldest child and daughter of Grand Duke Jean and the late Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte.

  1. I just love Princess Marie-Astrid. She is always smiling and must be very kind. I also like that she isn't wearing a new outfit - or, if it is new, it is the same design as one she has worn previously (and her mother wore a similar one).

  2. I agree, she always looks fab, very chic, simple and understated, definitely proves that "less is more"... I am old enough to remember the 70s when she was being seen as a future bride for a certain Prince Charles..... religion was seen as the problem. But just think - if M-A and Charles had got together, no Diana, no 80s explosion of press interest in the royals, I had better not carry on....

  3. As soon as I posted just now I went on to The Royal Watcher blog and there was a lovely picture of G-D J-C with a newborn then-Prince Henri. J-C is wearing the same butterfly brooch M-A wore at this and other rent weddings. It just proves what a class act she is - as with her clothes, all her jewellery is very simple and elegant - but I bet every stone is real!

  4. MA often wears the brooch and pearl necklace that belonged to JC. She also often wears her mother's clothing as evidence by this blue suit. JC and MA are true class acts.

  5. Someone on another blog mentioned that this outfit was worn by G-D J-C in 2004 when her husband abdicated. So not only is M-A elegant, she is very smart - she can fit into her mother's couture clothes!! She has other priorities than being a clotheshorse. And regarding the jewellery - it's "family" and therefore important (not simply b/c it's real) What a lady. Could she be smiling any broader with her handsome son?

  6. Indeed MA seems to be wearing her mother's suit from Henri's enthronement (2000) though it could also be a very similar one as MA has the same suit in brown and white as well. I'm currently doing the research for a post about the various clothes sharing and recycling of the family members as there was more going on at the wedding (and at other events).

  7. Marlene Koenig on her Royal Musings blog mentions that MA wore a beige/brown version at Marie Christine's wedding - I had forgotten about that.

  8. She didn't only wear it for Marie-Christine's wedding but also for the weddings of her Belgian cousins Philippe and Laurent.
