On December 7th, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa paid a visit to the youngest victims of the flooding that occurred earlier this year. She sat with the children and asked questions about what they had received from St. Nicholas, on the previous day.

The flooding caused extensive problems in low-lying areas and damaged a number of cellars and garages. Roads were also closed, causing problems for first-responders, and at one point the trains were forced to stop on the line that runs between Luxembourg and northeastern France. A state of emergency was declared on July 22nd, and the flooding cost insurers between €5 million and €10 million.
