Celebrations, Celebrations and More Celebrations

It promises to be a busy month of June for the Grand Ducal Family. As previously reported, Grand Duke Henri will attend 70th anniversary celebrations of the allied Normandy landings on June 6th. The cour grand-ducale now confirmed his attendance as well of that of Grand Duchess Maria-Teresa and Grand Duke Jean. Luxembourg's former Grand Duke fought in World War II as an allied soldier and landed on Europe's continental shores a few days after D-Day, on June 11th, 1944.

Actually already prior to his visit to France, Grand Duke Henri will make a short visit to Poland to attend the 25th anniversary celebrations of the country's first post-communist elections. The celebrations marking the event will take place on June 3rd and 4th.

In addition, there are a number of engagement for the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess as well as the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Hereditary Grand Duchess back home in the Grand Duchy. Of course, there is also Luxembourg's National Day at the end of the month and in addition the family is also going to welcome a new baby prince or princess.

A little down the road, on August 17th, to be precise, the Grand Duke's sister Archduchess Marie-Astrid will be in Merville-Franceville to commemorate the liberation of the French town by Belgian and Luxembourgish soldiers of the Brigade Piron on August 17th and 18th, 1944.
