"A Great Night in Harlem" Concert

Photo: Contactmusic.com
On Friday night, Princess Julie of Nassau, the lovely wife of the Grand Duke's cousin Prince Robert of Luxembourg, was among the guests of the 13th annual "A Great Night In Harlem" gala concert at the Apollo Theatre in New York City. "A Great Night in Harlem" is a benefit concert organised by the Jazz Foundation of America to raise money for the Jazz Foundation's Musician Emergency Fund, which helps countless elder jazz and blues musicians in crisis across the country.

During the event, Princess Julie gave a speech about her experience of being a part of the Jazz Foundation.  She described the impact that this foundation has made on people’s lives and her being a major contributor to this foundation. The American-born wife of Prince Robert praised the efforts of all the workers and how dedicated they are to this great cause.

More pictures of the gala concert can be found at Contactmusic.com.

  1. I keep wondering whatever possessed him to buy those trousers. But they give me a laugh every time he wears them.

  2. Hi! First of all, love the blog! Second of all, Letizia's first solo appearance was on November 4, 2004. She participated in the inauguration of the Congress of the Association of the Iberoamerican History Academies in Madrid.

What an interesting article. I'm surprised the Duchess of Cambridge ranked so highly as, let's face it, her dutiful engagements, whether solo or accompanied, are fairly infrequent.
As usual, Mary of Denmark wins my heart and admiration.

  4. Thanks for the correction. I understand though that it wasn't supposed to be a solo engagement but instead Felipe had to pull out at the last moment to attend a funeral. Her first "real" solo agenda was announced while Letizia was pregnant with Sofia.

  5. Being the wife of the heir of the heir, the Duchess of Cambridge is in another situation than any of the others mentioned above, so that might be one of the major reasons for the relatively few engagements overall.

  6. Well, then you still missed her attending a concert for the Victims of Terrorism Foundation on October 6, 2006. That, Felipe was never scheduled to attend.

Yes, I'm sure that's part of the consideration however, William and Catherine are nonetheless in the direct line of succession to the throne and as such have an obligation to prove themselves worthy of a position of such power, prestige and wealth. Noblesse oblige and all that.

  8. I'm not doubting that, however, it is also very important that they know that they are the third couple of the family and try not to overshadow the couples ahead of them. It's quite a difficult situation they are in as their events will always be the ones most covered by the media.

  9. Thanks, that was indeed three days before the event we found. As we said, it is rather difficult to find correct information on eight royals that were years ago. We would have also loved to go a few years further back but it's nearly impossible to find information on the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's.

  10. The Royal Forums is great for it. Not all of the photo links work anymore, but the info is still there. At least back until about 2003/2004.

Yeah, it's pretty hopeless for anything prior to the early 2000s, which is really sad.

  11. It is, I think that's were both Lea and I mostly looked but it was quite a late night project so it's very possible that we missed something.

It is sad indeed. You mostly only find info about the major/big events and if you judge by those, it took many royal ladies years and years before they attended their first solo engagements.
