Every two years, Europe's smallest states gather for the Games of the Small States of Europe. After Liechtenstein in 2011 and Luxembourg in 2013, it is Iceland's turn this year to host the multi-sport event. Over the course of the coming week, sportspeople from Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino will compete for medals in the following sports: Athletics, basketball, cycling, golf, gymnastics, judo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

In true sports event style, the 16th Games of the Small States of Europe started with an opening ceremony. The event in Laugardalshöll was attended by Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie as well as Prince Albert II of Monaco. I think I can also just about spy a half cut-off Princess Nora in the picture above.

A few more visuals of the opening ceremony at L'essentiel.
